The story behind Sacred Journey
Sacred Journey opened its doors in 2013, founded by Dianne Sellers after nearly two decades in labor and delivery. Two years ago, after many years of friendship and shared birth work, Atara Klein became her partner. Today the practice serves families across Maryland and Pennsylvania.
This is what it always wanted to be. Two hands, two hearts, one philosophy of care.
What we believe about birth
Birth belongs to the woman giving birth. Not to the calendar, not to the policy manual, not to the loudest voice in the hallway. Our job is to bring skill, presence, and steadiness so you can bring everything else.
We are evidence-based and we are intuition-trusting. There is no contradiction. The best midwifery care holds both.
Meet Dianne Sellers
CPM, LDEM Founder
Dianne started catching babies in 1994 as a labor and delivery nurse and trained as a doula and childbirth educator alongside her hospital work. She returned to birth work in 2010 after a few years home with her own growing family, apprenticed under five different midwives, and earned her CPM credential in 2013, the same year she founded Sacred Journey.
Married since 1994 and a mother of seven, Dianne is also a former president of the Association of Independent Midwives of Maryland (AIMM), where she continues to serve her sister midwives across the state. She still calls every birth a gift.
Meet Atara Klein
CPM, LDEM Partner
Atara is an Orthodox Jewish mother of five and a midwife shaped by twelve-plus years as a doula. In those doula years she supported more than 500 families through birth, taught Birth Boot Camp classes, and built a quiet specialty in walking alongside mothers whose babies were headed for the NICU.
She earned her CPM and LDEM license through Southwest Tech in Wisconsin in 2022, completing her midwifery training in two years. She apprenticed with Dianne and two other midwives, and continues her education in Breech Without Borders, NRP, CPR, BEST, and hemorrhage skills training. She is also a certified Birth Boot Camp instructor.
Always learning
